Pinterest recently announced that they will support “buying pins”. For those of you who don’t know what Pinterest is, it is a social media giant in which users can upload, save, sort, and manage images – known as pins – and other media content through collections known as Pinboards. Users can also follow and browse the content of other users.

Pinterest quickly become popular among women and soon became a favorite of many retail businesses as it caught on through a diverse range of demographics. Pinterest is well known throughout the Social Media Management community as home to the most “likely to buy” of all social media audiences.

The addition of the “Buy it on Pinterest” program is exciting news for retailer, particularly those who sell visually appealing, stylish products like apparel and accessories. Users will have a number of filtering features that allow them to focus in on products that they are looking for.

Sellers using Shopify can use this feature now with Demandware integration soon to come. For alerts on future integrations, you can get on the waitlist by clicking this link.

The Operation Web team is successfully managing several Pinterest accounts for clients with promoted pins that get traction for months. The “post life span” of a pin versus a Facebook post, for example, is like that of an Elephant versus a butterfly. Pins live and stay visible for a long time which is why they can become so effective for businesses.
